Anna Mae Kirk was born October 3, 1926 to Essie and Temp Hooks in Tatums, OK. Anna received her formal education through the Tatums Public School System, where she excelled in her studies.
Anna Mae accepted Christ as her Savior with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She faithfully served as a Youth Sunday School Teacher for many years, then moved to Adult Sunday School Teacher and Lead Usher, as well as Vice President of the Ushers’ Board at Antioch Baptist Church.
Anna Mae was employed with Halliburton where she served many years before retiring in 1986. She went to work at Douglas Gym for many years. Following her retirement, she returned to volunteer her time. She sat overnight many times with Mrs. Worley. She was always willing to hep in the community. She enjoyed walking around the neighborhood for her daily exercise.
Anna Mae was known in Duncan to many as Ms. Anna. She was well loved and respected in her community. She was loved and known by her great-grandchildren as “Grandma Jelly” because of her gift of preparing homemade jelly preserve.
Anna Mae Kirk was truly blessed. She departed this life on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the age of 94 years; 2 weeks short of 95 years, and 24 years more than the Lord promised!
In addition to her parents, Anna Mae is preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Flora Hooks and Arlene Hooks; brothers, Amos Hooks and Harvey Hooks and her son, Norvell James.
Anna leaves to forever cherish precious memories a daughter, Latina Kirk; Grandsons, William (Marquette) James, Timothy (Amber) James, Timon (Amber) Kirk; Granddaughter, Tonya Kirk; Great grandchildren, Robert Sasser, Keneshia Jefferson, LaDarrius (Alexandria) Redmon, Dedrick (Kenndrea) James, Charles James, Deidre James, Blake Stephens, Olivia James, MaryAnna Kirk, Titus Kirk, 6 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
