Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., adorned in turquoise and black, to celebrate the life of Ivory George "I.G." Godwin. I.G. peacefully embarked on his final journey from his son's home, June 18, 2024. Born on April 28, 1939, in Newport, OK to Jessie Mae Clay and John H. Godwin, he lived a remarkable life spanning 85 years. Growing up in the Springer and Woodford community, I.G. was known for his love of basketball and his unwavering dedication to Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Throughout his professional life, I.G. worked diligently at Colbert Dairy and later as a lineman at Ardmore District Bell. When not atop poles or at Dornick Hills Country Club on weekends, he found solace in farming. A jovial soul, I.G. was a cherished presence at gatherings with loved ones, always ready with a joke or a tease.

In love and companionship, I.G. found eternal joy with Esther Mae Humdy, whom he married in Ardmore. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he shared boundless love and laughter with his family and friends.

I.G. is proceeded in death by his wife, parents, grandparents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, 1 brother-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law, 1 son, Ronnie Dowdy, and a granddaughter, Nikki Roberts.

I.G.'s legacy is carried on by his daughter Brenda Anderson and her husband Steve of Ardmore; his son Ricky L. Dowdy of Ardmore; 5 siblings; Sandra Pickens, Beverly Hurbert, Francis Burleson, Edgar Godwin, Clay Paul Burleson; 4 sisters-in-law, Florence Godwin, Sharron Burleson, Linda Davis of Moore, and Lou Ella Pickens; and 1 brother-in-law, Guy Humdy; 6 grandchildren; Brandi Vowell, Ricky Dowdy Jr, Shana Smith, Craig Anderson, Cozell Dowdy and Christopher Dowdy; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; his Mt. Olive Baptist Church family; and cherished friends.

In the hearts of those who knew him best, Ivory George "I.G." Godwin will forever be remembered for his warm spirit and enduring love that touched countless lives. May he find eternal peace now that his earthly journey has come to an end.
