James Luther Hornbeak

February 10, 1951 — June 8, 2024

Marietta

James Luther Hornbeak, fondly known as "Hound," entered this world on February 10, 1951, in Gainesville, Texas, as the second child of Luther Hornbeak and Sarah Williams Hornbeak. He spent his formative years in the Dunbar Community alongside his beloved siblings Ronnie Luther, Dennie Luther, and Gwenda "Sissy." His days were filled with church gatherings and sports activities like basketball and baseball before graduating from Turner High School in 1970.

Driven by a deep love for his country, James dutifully served in the United States Air Force, earning an Honorable Discharge for his service. In 1974, he joined in matrimony with Evelyn Agers, and their union was blessed with a son named Cardelle Deshon Hornbeak. Known for his compassion towards others, James found fulfillment working at the Veteran Administration Center in Maintenance until his well-deserved retirement.

Sadly preceding him in death are his parents, his loving wife Evelyn Agers Hornbeak, brother Ronnie Luther Hornbeak, nephew Rondre Hornbeak (whom he played a pivotal role in raising), and his dear niece LaDeana Williams-Webb with whom he shared many jovial moments.

In mourning his departure but celebrating a life well-lived, James leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by his children: sons Sean Wright and Cardelle Hornbeak (Regina), daughter Vanessa Hall; 3 bonus children Cynthia Agers Posey, Latrice Fuller, Tyrone Fuller; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Dennie Hornbeak (Barbara), sister Gwenda "Sissy" Kemp (Charley), numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of friends who will always remember him fondly. May he rest in peace.
