Joe DeWayne Maytubby, lovingly known as Jody Wayne, graced the world with his presence on July 4, 1956, in Boswell. He left us peacefully on September 25, 2025, in Ardmore, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Jody Wayne was a cherished soul, and his absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. A talented chef at the beloved Chuck Wagon Restaurant in Ardmore, Jody Wayne devoted much of his life to the culinary arts. His passion for cooking was rivaled only by his genuine desire to spread joy among those around him. With a wonderful sense of humor that could brighten any gathering, he had a magical ability to bring laughter into the lives of others. The warmth of his spirit is etched in the precious memories that will be lovingly recounted by family and friends.
Education held a special place in Jody Wayne’s heart. He attended Douglas High School in Ardmore, where he cultivated friendships that would last a lifetime. His deep love for the outdoors was evident in his pursuit of serenity and fulfillment in nature. Proud of his roots, he was unwavering in his commitment to his community, always there to lend a helping hand or share a friendly smile.
Jody Wayne was a lifelong member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where his faith and commitment to his community were evident in all that he did. His legacy is mirrored in the lives he influenced and the love he shared with so many.
He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Tamera Jo'Nell Maytubby, alongside a circle of family and friends who adored him. Among them are Debra Ann Knight, the mother of his children and a lifelong friend; his sister Rhode Ann Maytubby-Herbert and her husband, Oscar; and five brothers: Martin Maytubby Sr. of Ardmore, Bruce Maytubby and his wife, Renee, Oklahoma City, Cecil Maytubby and his wife, Clariscy of Oklahoma City, Terry Maytubby and his wife, Laurie of Kansas City, MO, and Ricky Maytubby of Oklahoma City. A special niece, Keisha J. Nelson and her husband, Winston, of Ardmore, along with countless other relatives and friends, will cherish his memory.
Jody Wayne's proudest accomplishments were his daughters, Rachonda and Tamera, whom he loved unconditionally. He took great joy in caring for his nieces and nephews, often stepping in as their caregiver when needed, nurturing them with his boundless affection.
Preceding him in death were his beloved mother, Margaret Jean Caldwell Maytubby; father, Bruce Maytubby Sr.; sisters, Margaret 'Marie' Maytubby and Ezella Maytubby; brother, Larry Maytubby; and daughter, Rachonda Michella Maytubby-Knight. Their legacies live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
The visitation for Jody Wayne is scheduled for October 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Kirk Funeral Home, located at 6 E Street NE, Ardmore, OK. Following this, a celebration of his life will take place at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, commencing at 11:00 AM.
Joe DeWayne Maytubby was more than just a loving father; he was a devoted brother and a steadfast friend. The imprint he has left on the lives of all who were fortunate to know him will resonate for years to come. His spirit will continue to inspire laughter and love in our hearts, reminding us of the joy he brought into this world.
