Lucy McGee Anderson, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at Lakeland Manor in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Born on November 2, 1929, in Milo, Oklahoma, Lucy illuminated the lives of those around her with her vivacious spirit and undeniable grace.
A woman of indomitable strength and character, Lucy made her mark in the world through her unwavering commitment to family and her appreciation for the simpler joys in life. Her career, rooted in the art of cleaning houses, mirrored her devotion to maintaining a pristine home, a testament to her values. She was a true diva, never seen without her makeup and stylish attire, reflecting her belief that each day was an opportunity to present her best self to the world.
Cooking was not merely a hobby for Lucy; it was a passion that she honed with love and creativity. Her culinary talents delighted family and friends alike, as she often experimented with new recipes and strived to create meals that brought joy to others. The pride she took in her cooking can be seen as one of her proudest accomplishments, as she reveling in the smiles that followed every meal she prepared.
Lucy was a devoted member of St. Paul Baptist Church, previously having been part of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, where she shared her beautiful tenor voice as part of a singing group known as The Southernaires. Her musical gifts were just one aspect of her rich and vibrant personality. A protector of her loved ones, she stood fiercely by her family, prepared to defend them against any disparagement, showcasing the depth of her loyalty and love.
She is remembered fondly for her many treasured moments spent in the company of family and friends. Lucy’s legacy is firmly rooted in the hearts of those she leaves behind, including her son, Carlton Gene Anderson of Ardmore; her granddaughter, Kathleen Abram; and her four sisters, Claudette Anderson of Milo, Alvis Knight of Ardmore, Ola Abram of Oklahoma City, and Barbara Ann Anderson and Dwight of Ardmore. Additionally, her family spans a network of special nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and her cherished St. Paul Baptist Church Family, all of whom will hold her memory close to their hearts.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Effie (Jackson) and Earnsby McGee; her beloved husband, Alvin Gene Anderson; two sons, Gerald Williamson and Kenneth Atkins; and five brothers and four sisters. Among these, Eddie Lee McGee, Cornelious McGee, Eastman McGee, Eulas Ray McGee, and E.M. McGee, along with her dear sisters, Eddie Bell Pickens, Earney Mae Wright, Dora Lee White, and Modean Mims, have welcomed her with open arms.
The remembrance of Lucy will be celebrated during a viewing at Kirk Funeral Home in Ardmore on August 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, followed by a burial service on August 8, 2025, at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church in Springer at 11:00 AM. Lucy McGee Anderson leaves behind a remarkable legacy that embodies love, strength, and devotion, ensuring that her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
